Ryan is an entrepreneur and former trader at the Chicago Board Options Exchange, who has consulted for hedge funds and family offices.
Prior to joining VCapital, Ryan was a Venture Associate for DreamIt Ventures, an East Coast based venture capital firm, where he actively screened companies for their accelerator program. He has also been a frequent mentor for engineering students at Northwestern University and the University of Illinois at Chicago as well as for members of 1871 (a Chicago-based incubator with over 400 early stage, tech startups). Ryan co-founded Beyond Barriers Therapeutics, Inc., which won the National Institutes of Health Neuro Startup Challenge and recently completed the National Science Foundation’s I-Corps program. They are currently in pre-clinical trials with their therapeutic. Ryan is also the founder of RK Inventions, LLC, a startup focused on identifying alternative solutions to everyday problems. With four patents and several more pending, he has sold products worldwide and has installed a new product at Johns Hopkins Hospital to reduce hospital-acquired infections.
Ryan earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his MBA from the University Of Chicago Booth School Of Business. Ryan and his inventions have been featured on WGN-TV and in numerous publications, and he has been interviewed on NBC for one of his proudest achievements: winning a Rock-Paper-Scissors competition. He also volunteers for Impact Teen Drivers.
